SOLYX Deep Etch: Purpose and Appearance

SOLYX Deep Etch is a translucent vinyl film that simulates deeply frosted or etched glass, obscuring visibility while still passing usable light. Manufacturer code SXGF-0097. 3 mil vinyl face film, solvent-based clear acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive, 1 mil polyester liner. Rated for interior or exterior glass, and often compared to 3M Fasara and LLumar decorative films for a similar frosted aesthetic.

Privacy, Day and Night

This film obscures views through its frosted, etched finish in daylight and after dark, while keeping the room bright at 30% visible light transmission. Privacy varies with the design, lighting and distance from the glass; silhouettes may remain visible, especially close to the pane. We recommend a sample under your actual lighting conditions. Where complete privacy is needed, an opaque whiteout or blackout film is the one to look at instead.

Published Performance

The manufacturer publishes 30% visible light transmission, 80% exterior visible reflectance, 93% of ultraviolet blocked. Figures are comparative and measured on the manufacturer’s stated test glazing, so actual results vary with the glass they are applied to.

Warranty and Durability

Warranty. The SOLYX technical sheet for Deep Etch lists a five-year warranty for interior applications and one year for exterior. We confirm the current terms with SOLYX and give them to you in writing with your quote.

Expected durability. SOLYX separately estimates how long the film lasts in place: up to 15 years indoors and up to 7 years outdoors on vertical glass, with an exterior life expectancy of 3 to 5 years. These are estimates, not warranty terms.

Fire rating: Class A to ASTM E84 / NFPA 101.

Professional Glass Review and Installation

Final suitability depends on glass type, pane configuration, coatings, edge condition, framing and orientation. OOVO Window Films can inspect the glass, compare the options within the Decorative range and recommend the film that fits the property, alongside comparable products from Vista by LLumar and 3M.
