LLumar GCL SR RPS6: Purpose and Appearance

LLumar GCL SR RPS6 is an optically clear, 6-mil protective film that acts as a replaceable layer over glass and other smooth surfaces. When it is scratched, etched, painted or tagged, the film is removed and replaced instead of the glass; its adhesive is made for easy removal and replacement. It is used on storefronts, transit areas, mirrors and other commercial surfaces exposed to vandalism. It keeps the surface clear at 89% visible light transmission on the manufacturer’s 1/8-inch clear test glass and blocks 99% of UV rays. It adds minimal heat and glare control and does not provide visual privacy.

Heat, Glare, and Daylight Performance

Under the manufacturer’s stated NFRC-based test conditions, GCL SR RPS6 rejects 16% of total solar energy, reduces summer solar heat gain by 2% and reduces glare by 1%. Those are small changes: this film is chosen for its replaceable protective layer, not for cooling or glare control. At 89% visible light transmission, rooms keep their daylight.

UV, Infrared, and Interior Protection

The film blocks 99% of ultraviolet rays in the tested 300-380 nm range. Reducing UV exposure can help slow premature fading of flooring, furniture, fabrics, artwork, merchandise, and other finishes. No film can eliminate fading because visible light, heat, humidity, and material composition also contribute. The cited safety or protective-film performance sheet does not publish IRER or SIRR for this model, so no separate infrared percentage is claimed here. Total solar energy rejected is used as the broader measure of solar performance.

Reflectivity, Views, and Privacy

Visible reflectance is approximately 10% on both the exterior and the interior, so the glass looks much as it did before.

As a clear film, it provides no meaningful visual privacy by day or night.
