Bird Safe Window Film for DFW Homes

If you have large picture windows facing your backyard, a sunroom with floor-to-ceiling glass, or windows that overlook a bird feeder or a tree line, you have almost certainly heard the sound. The thud of a bird hitting the glass. It happens because birds cannot see standard clear or reflective glass as a solid object. They see the reflection of sky or trees and they fly directly into it.

Bird strikes on residential windows kill hundreds of millions of birds a year in North America. For a lot of homeowners this is a genuine welfare concern. For others, it is simply that repeated strikes leave marks on the glass, sometimes injure the bird visibly, and are unpleasant to hear. Whichever reason brought you to this page, bird safe window film solves the problem.

How Bird Safe Film Works

Bird safe films use a repeating dot pattern that birds recognize as an obstacle. The dots are spaced close enough to fall within the two-inch by four-inch rule (a spacing pattern established by conservation research that reliably prevents strikes across almost all bird species). The pattern is visible enough to birds in flight to be identified as a barrier, but subtle enough from inside the house that it does not obstruct your view.

The film we install for residential clients is Solar Gard WingSafe. It has been tested against American Bird Conservancy standards, is applied directly to the exterior of the glass, and comes with a manufacturer warranty.

SolarGard WingSafe

WingSafe is manufactured by Solar Gard and is applied to the outside of the glass, so the dot pattern sits at the surface birds actually see when approaching. The dots read as a subtle texture rather than visible stripes, and most homeowners describe the film as barely noticeable from inside within a day or two of installation. WingSafe meets American Bird Conservancy thresholds for verified strike reduction.

Homeowners who want the pattern to be as inconspicuous as possible pick the neutral option. Our pricing guide shows both white dot patterns and neutral dot patterns starting at $18-24 per sq ft. Does Bird Film Reduce Heat Too?

The primary purpose of these films is strike prevention, not solar control. If your goal is both, the right answer is usually to install solar control film first, then add bird film if strikes continue. In some cases, a combination approach makes sense, and we will walk you through what fits best for your specific windows during the estimate.
